
Writing the Short Story
Introductory Writing Course and the Fundamentals of Short Stories.
This beginner-friendly course covers the essentials of short story writing, including character, plot, tension, dialogue, and setting. Through PowerPoint presentations, discussions, in-class exercises, and peer feedback, you’ll explore key elements such as conflict, exposition, dramatic arc, point of view, narrative structure, and literary devices. While optional, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a short story (500–1,000 words) to share with the class in a supportive and respectful setting. Whether you’re new to creative writing or looking to refresh your skills, this course will help you craft compelling stories.
