Community Centre 55 provides nutritious, allergy-safe meals and snacks through its long-term catering partner, Real Food for Real Kids. Substitutions and dietary restrictions are taken into account to accommodate the individual needs of children. Meals are served family-style to encourage children to share experiences with their peers and provide opportunities for educators to use meal times as a group learning experience. CLP team members are required to receive Food Allergy Training, First Aid and CPR, Food Safety Training, and follow CLP protocols to reduce the risks of severe allergies in our child care environments.
Lillio (formerly HiMama) is used by Nursery School and Junior Enrichment educators to record activities and update families throughout the day. Everything from daily activities to menu postings, it provides families with complete history of their child’s experience in our program with photos stored safely and securely in a journal format. Whether families are at work, home or on the go, real-time updates on each child’s learning experiences and development are available through the Lillio mobile app. From time to time, our programs share communications to families about special events, newsletters, and any upcoming changes in our programs. Families are also able to share feedback to staff through the app. We found that our family engagement levels have significantly increased as a result of being also available through an app format.
The Nursery School and Junior Enrichment Program is a part-time care program and operate on a 10-month calendar (September to June) in alignment with the Toronto District School Board school year calendar. The program is closed for statutory holidays, including Easter Monday and Remembrance Day, Christmas Break, Winter Break, July and August. Fees are charged when the program is closed and regardless of attendance. The program participates in the CWELCC Agreement, but does not have a Service Agreement for Fee Subsidy with the City of Toronto Children’s Services.
